This course prepares experienced testing professionals for the ISTQB® Advanced Level Test Analyst certification. Throughout the training, you learn how to apply structured test techniques that improve defect detection and product reliability. You must hold the ISTQB® Foundation Certificate and have significant experience within software testing in order to benefit fully from the training.
About Sue Atkins
As a self-confessed bug-magnet, quality advocate and risk nut, Sue Atkins has been active in the world of software testing and process improvement for over thirty years.
She has experience of software development from both the waterfall and Agile perspectives across a diverse range of sectors – from banking and telecoms to healthcare and retail.
Sue has a passion for training and loves to help others grow their skills in all dimensions of testing, quality and process improvement. She has spoken at a number of conferences, is co-chair of the Scottish Testing Group and was a member of the programme committee for EuroSTAR 2022 – Europe’s largest Testing Conference.

Advanced test design techniques
The course focuses on applying test design techniques like equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, decision tables, state transition testing and others that help structure effective test cases.
Risk-based testing and prioritisation
Learn how to prioritise testing efforts based on risk assessment, and how to balance risk with time and resource constraints throughout the test cycle.
Defect and test management
You gain insight into efficient defect lifecycle handling, including classification, escalation and tracking, and how this ties into test status reporting.
Test environments and data
This section covers setting up and managing test environments, handling test data, and ensuring that environment conditions support valid and repeatable tests.
Reviews and inspections
The course explores how formal and informal review techniques contribute to quality by uncovering issues earlier in the lifecycle.
About the exam
The participant must attain the ISTQB Foundation in Software Testing qualification as a pre-requisite to taking the exam. The exam is a remote proctored exam.
The ISTQB Advanced Test Manager exam is a 2-hour multiple choice exam with the pass mark being 65%. There is an extra 45 minutes allowed for candidates whose first language is not English.You must hold the ISTQB Foundation certificate in software testing in order to sit this exam.
