TMMi® Professional Certificate
This course prepares you for the TMMi® Professional Certificate, a globally recognised qualification for software testing maturity and capability. You will learn how to assess, improve and govern test processes based on the TMMi (Test Maturity Model integration) framework. The training focuses on applying process improvement techniques that help organisations achieve robust, measurable and effective test processes that support quality and delivery goals.
The course introduces the TMMi model, how it is structured, and how organisations can use it to evaluate current practices and plan systematic improvements. You will gain practical insight into maturity levels, assessment methods, key process areas and best practices for scaling test improvement in real contexts. The training includes examples and exercises that mirror typical improvement initiatives and help you apply lessons directly in your organisation.

Instructor Clive Bates
Clive has been involved in testing for over 30 years and has a clear passion to help others grow their own skills and knowledge through training, presentations, and mentoring. Clive has been described by his students as an “Entertrainer” due to his style of training, passion for all aspects of testing and his objective to ensure the training is an enjoyable experience for the students.
His desire to give back to the industry meant he helped establish the original ISEB certification scheme in 1998 with a focus in the UK, and then continuing when ISTQB was established up to the current time. In addition to the delivery of training and consultancy Clive is the Director of Accreditation for UKTB, and part of the Management Executive for the TMMi Foundation as Chair of Accreditation.
Clive also has a keen interest in Process Improvement and has been a TMMi Lead Assessor since 2010 and a certified Test Process Improver. He is very active in training TMMi and running assessments globally, which gives him a unique inside knowledge on a wide range of organisations and lifecycles. Clive likes to learn new things that means he always has an eye on the future direction of our testing industry.
Introduction to TMMi
The course starts with a high-level overview of the Test Maturity Model integration (TMMi), including its origins, structure and guidance on how to read and use the model effectively.
Process areas and maturity levels
You will explore TMMi’s maturity levels and process areas, and how they map to organisational testing practices that support quality goals.
Assessment techniques
This section covers methods for assessing current capabilities, collecting evidence and identifying gaps between current and desired maturity.
Improvement planning
Learn how to translate assessment insights into actionable improvement plans, including prioritisation and stakeholder alignment.
Measurement and metrics
You will gain understanding of key measurement approaches that support tracking improvement and reporting progress to decision makers.
Governance and sustainment
This part of the course focuses on how to embed test process improvements into organisational governance and ensure sustainment over time.
About the exam
The exam is not included in the training. To book exam time please contact our test center.
The examination consists of a closed-book, 40-question multiple choice exam held at the end of the course or done online. A minimum score of 26 (65%) is required to become a certified TMMi Professional.
