Introduction to Quantum Cryptography for IT & Security Professionals
With the rise of quantum computing, which threatens current encryption systems, quantum cryptography is seen as the future of secure communication, particularly for governments, financial institutions, and critical infrastructure. It offers unprecedented security based on the principles of quantum mechanics.
Traditional cryptographic methods, like RSA and ECC, rely on the difficulty of mathematical problems (such as factoring large numbers), which can potentially be broken by quantum computers. Quantum cryptography, particularly Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), provides security that is theoretically unbreakable.
This one-day intensive workshop provides IT and security professionals with a foundational understanding of quantum cryptography, its implications for cybersecurity, and how organizations can prepare for the quantum era. Participants will learn the principles of quantum mechanics relevant to cryptography, explore quantum-safe encryption techniques, and examine the potential impact of quantum computing on modern cryptographic protocols.

Course objectives
|
By the end of this course, participants will:
Understand the fundamentals of quantum cryptography and quantum computing. Recognize the risks quantum computing poses to current cryptographic systems. Gain insight into quantum key distribution (QKD) and post-quantum cryptography (PQC). Identify strategies for transitioning to quantum-safe security solutions. Be prepared to make informed decisions about quantum security in their organizations.

|
Target audience
|
• IT security professionals
• Network and system administrators
• Cybersecurity analysts
• Compliance and risk management officers
• Technology decision-makers

|
Prerequisites
|
Participants should have a basic understanding of classical cryptography concepts, computer networks, and general IT security principles. Familiarity with encryption standards such as RSA or AES is helpful but not mandatory. No prior knowledge of quantum physics is required.
