AZ-802: Administer Windows Server

Take charge of Windows Server environments that span on-premises, hybrid, and cloud. This five-day, intermediate-level course teaches you to deploy, manage, secure, and troubleshoot Windows Server workloads using tools like Windows Admin Center, Hyper-V, PowerShell, Azure Arc, Azure Monitor, Azure Update Manager, and Microsoft Defender for Cloud — while building a solid foundation in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).

Prerequisites

Before starting this course, you should have:

  • Hands-on experience managing the Windows Server operating system and core workloads on-premises, including AD DS, DNS, DFS, Hyper-V, and File and Storage Services
  • Familiarity with common Windows Server management tools
  • A working understanding of core networking concepts such as IP addressing, name resolution, and DHCP
  • Basic knowledge of Azure hybrid technologies, including their deployment and management
  • General familiarity with core compute, storage, networking, and virtualization concepts

Target audience

This course is designed for Windows Server administrators, systems engineers, and infrastructure specialists who run server workloads across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. In this role, you're responsible for identity, security, management, compute, networking, storage, and monitoring for Windows Server, and you typically work closely with architects, administrators, and other engineers.

This course prepares you for Exam AZ-802: Administering Windows Server, which leads to the Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administrator Associate certification (currently in beta). It replaces the previous two-exam path (AZ-800 and AZ-801), which is being retired on September 30, 2026.
