ISO 9001 Foundation

ISO 9001 Foundations is a two-day training courses which focuses on the concepts of quality and quality management, and provides an overall explanation of ISO 9001 requirements for a quality management system (QMS). In this training course, you will be acquainted with the various aspects of a QMS based on ISO 9001, such as the role of top management, risks and opportunities, quality policy, processes that shape product and service provision activities, requirements for performance evaluation, and the importance of continual improvement.

After completing this course, you can sit for the exam. If you successfully pass the exam, you can apply for the “Certificate Holder in ISO 9001 Foundation” designation. This certificate demonstrates that you have a general knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements for a QMS and enables you to be part of QMS implementation projects.

Learning objectives:

Upon successful completion of this training course, the participants will be able to:

  2. Explain the main ISO 9001 requirements for a quality management system
  3. Identify potential actions and approaches that organizations can use to achieve conformity to ISO 9001

The ISO 9001 Foundations training course is intended for:

  • Managers and consultants seeking to know more about quality management
  • Professionals wishing to get acquainted with ISO 9001 requirements for a QMS
  • Individuals engaged in or responsible for quality management activities in their organization
  • Individuals wishing to pursue a career in quality management

Prerequisites:

There are no prerequisites to participate in this training course.

Day 1 – Introduction to quality concepts, QMS, and clauses 4–6 of ISO 9001

The course begins with an introduction to fundamental quality concepts and the role of a Quality Management System in supporting organisational performance and customer satisfaction. Participants gain an overview of how ISO 9001 structures quality requirements and how these requirements integrate into business processes.

The session continues with detailed coverage of clauses 4 to 6 of ISO 9001. Participants explore the context of the organisation, including internal and external issues, interested parties and the scope of the QMS.

Leadership responsibilities and commitment are examined, along with the development of a quality policy and the assignment of roles and responsibilities. The day concludes with planning activities, including risk-based thinking, addressing risks and opportunities, and establishing quality objectives.

Day 2 – Clauses 7–10 of ISO 9001 and certificate exam

Day two focuses on clauses 7 to 10 of ISO 9001. Participants explore support processes such as resources, competence, awareness, communication and documented information.

The session continues with operational requirements, including control of products and services, design and development considerations and evaluation of external providers.

Performance evaluation is examined through monitoring, measurement, analysis, internal audit and management review processes.

The course concludes with improvement requirements, including nonconformities, corrective actions and continual improvement.

The final part of the day is dedicated to preparation for and completion of the certification examination in accordance with certification body requirements.

Upon the successful completion of the exam, you can apply for one of the credentials shown in the table below. You will receive a certificate once you fulfill all the requirements related to the selected credential. Exam

The exam is will take place at the end of the course on onsite classroom courses

For Virtual courses we will send out a voucher that gives you access to an online exam. This can be booked and taken home monitored by a proctor via camera. More information about the exam rules will be send from PECB.

  • Multiple choice “closed book” exam where the candidates are not authorized to use anything but the exam paper and a pen or,
  • Duration: 1 hour (+ 10 min extra time for non-native)
  • The use of electronic devices, such as laptops, cell phones, etc., is not allowed.

Examination rules and policies

RECEIVE YOUR EXAM RESULTS

Results will be communicated by email in a period of 6 to 8 weeks, after taking the exam. The results will not include the exact grade of the candidate, only a mention of pass or fail.

Candidates who successfully complete the examination will be able to apply for a certified scheme which is explained in the course description.

In the case of a failure, the results will be accompanied with the list of domains in which the candidate had failed to provide guidance for exams’ retake preparation.

Candidates, who disagree with the exam results, may file a complaint by writing to examination@pecb.com or through PECB ticketing system.

EXAM RETAKE POLICY

There is no limit on the number of times a candidate may retake an exam. However, there are some limitations in terms of allowed time-frame in between exam retakes, such as:

  • Students, who have completed the full training but failed the written exam, are eligible to retake the exam once for free within a 12 month period from the initial date of the exam.
  • If a candidate does not pass the exam on the second attempt, he/she must wait 3 months (from the initial date of the exam) for the next attempt (2nd retake). Retake fee applies.
  • If a candidate does not pass the exam on the third attempt, he/she must wait 6 months (from the initial date of the exam) for the next attempt (3rd retake). Retake fee applies.

After the fourth attempt, a waiting period of 12 months from the last session date is required, in order for candidate to sit again for the same exam. Regular fee applies.

For the candidates that fail the exam in the 2nd retake, PECB recommends to attend an official training in order to be better prepared for the exam.
