Coaching techniques

Many organisations are becoming Agile and this requires a different kind of leadership. To be able to coach, rather than direct, is crucial for all leaders on an Agile journey. In this workshop we will focus on learning by doing and reflect together on why and when coaching skills can help.

A dojo gives you a place and some techniques to practice. In this coaching dojo we will meet to learn and practice on some characteristics of coaching.

This course will focus on practicing several coaching techniques like active listening, powerful questions and nonviolent communication. You will get to try out all the techniques in triads with one coachee, one coach and one observer. You will get to test all the roles. Practicing in a safe environment will help you see how and when you can use these techniques in your workday.

Course Objectives:

In this course, you will learn to:

  • Help the people around you reach their full potential by the use of powerful questions
  • Solve conflicts in a better way using nonviolent communication

Everyone in a leadership role who wants to improve their coaching skills.

Prerequisites:

Although not necessary, knowledge of Agile methods is a plus. The techniques you learn are meant as an addition to the Agile methods and techniques already out there.

Andrea Altier

Andrea works as an Agile Coach in Miles. She has experience from helping organisations to actively use agile ways of working. She has special interest for helping people collaborate and remove communication barriers by using coaching techniques. Andrea has worked in roles as developer, lead developer, scrum master, test manager, release manager and project manager. 

Christina Kjær Seime

Christina works as a Lean/Agile Coach in Miles. She is an active speaker at conferences in Norway and enjoys giving workshops on different Agile topics. She is devoted to get teams and organisations to collaborate and work efficiently. She is passionate and interested in all things related to creating great products, convinced that this relies as much on inter-human aspects and communication as it does on technology.
