ISTQB Advanced Level Test Manager

This course is designed to prepare experienced testers and test managers for the ISTQB® Advanced Level Test Manager certification. It expands on foundational testing knowledge and focuses on the strategic, organisational and leadership aspects of test management. You will learn to design, implement and evaluate test processes that support business objectives and deliver high-quality software.

In this training you gain insight into planning and monitoring testing activities, risk management, test metrics and measurements, and leading test teams. The course follows the ISTQB® Advanced Level Test Manager syllabus and includes a mix of theory, examples and practical exercises to ensure you are well-prepared for the official ISTQB® exam. You will work with real-world scenarios that reflective of leadership responsibilities in test environments.

About Sue Atkins

As a self-confessed bug-magnet, quality advocate and risk nut, Sue Atkins has been active in the world of software testing and process improvement for over thirty years.

She has experience of software development from both the waterfall and Agile perspectives across a diverse range of sectors – from banking and telecoms to healthcare and retail.

You will explore the fundamentals of test management and leadership, focusing on how test strategies align with business and software delivery goals. Topics include governance, risk and cost/benefit considerations.

Test planning and monitoring

This section covers how to define test objectives, scope and entry/exit criteria, as well as how to track progress and adapt plans based on results and stakeholder feedback.

Risk and configuration management

Learn how to identify and manage risks in testing, and how configuration management supports consistency and repeatability in controlled test environments.

Test metrics and analytics

You will explore a suite of test metrics and KPI’s used to evaluate test process health, report to stakeholders and predict outcomes. Emphasis is on actionable, measurable data.

People and team leadership

The course provides actionable techniques for managing, coaching and motivating test teams. You will learn approaches to conflict resolution, communication and leadership best practices.

Reviews and audits

This section covers structured review techniques, audit practices and how to integrate these into quality assurance frameworks.

Tool support for test management

An overview of tools and platforms that support test planning, execution, defect tracking and reporting, with guidance on when and how to use them.

About the exam

The Foundation Level exam comprises 65 multiple-choice questions, with a scoring of 1 point for each correct answer, a pass mark of at least 65% and a duration of 180 minutes (or 225 minutes for candidates taking exams that are not in their native language). 

Please note you need to hold the ISTQB Level Foundation Exam to take this test. 

The course includes one exam voucher for the official ISTQB examination. The exam voucher is valid for 365 days from the date of issue, and the exam must be booked within six months after completing the course. The examination is conducted as an online proctored exam, unless otherwise stated.
